First SONA of President Noynoy Aquino (Transcript Available)

Today – July 26, 2010 at around 4PM, President Benigno Aquino III delivered his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) at Batasan Pambansa, just barely a month after his inauguration. The initial spoilers included a “simple” speech and “expose” of previous administration’s misdeeds to put it conservatively.

PNoy’s speech was delivered mostly in Tagalog/Filipino, and he covered a lot of topics/problems in less than an hour (around 40-45 minutes). This blogger thinks the meat of the speech was about the following: WASTED FUNDS. Pres. Noynoy Aquino blasted the previous administration: there were CORRUPTIONS that led to unnecessary spending and INCOMPETENCE that led to unplanned projects.

Were you able to watch the speech LIVE? What’s your take on Noynoy’s first SONA? If you missed it, read the transcript of his SONA inside this post ….

Brownout in Pandacan, and Manila

[UPDATE Jul. 15, 2010] Power has been restored at around 1AM Thursday

———–

[Original Post: Jul. 14, 2010 10:40 AM] Do you have power in your area? Portions of Pandacan and Manila still do not have power after Typhoon Basyang hit northern Luzon yesterday (Tuesday, July 13, 2010).

Other parts of Metro Manila are still suffering from brownout, like here in Makati where this blogger is writing this post.

In some parts of Luzon: “…Electricity at Canlubang substation, San Pablo, Los Baños, Trese Martires, Tagaytay, and General Mariano Alvarez substations, however, are back to normal…” Source: Sunstar

Yesterday, elementary classes were suspended.

Manila 50 Years Ago

Circa 1960′s. Manila was clean; not over-crowded; simple, yet elegant; Manilenyos were disciplined. In short, Manila was beautiful.

The following “Old Manila” photos and the original captions were forwarded by “a simple Pinoy overseas who loves his dear old Pilipinas… ” via emails, and we thought of sharing them with you, as a sort of tribute to our City and its residents during Manila Day. We had to scale down the photos since these are not our property.

First picture was before the ’60′s Old Manila. The environment was still very clean during that time. Based on the oldmobiles, Studebakers, Buicks & Pontiacs, I must have been about 10 years old at that time. 1953 Ford on the street going through Jones Bridge leading to Binondo…

Enjoy, and Happy Manila Day ….
