Despite the petition to relocate the oil depots in Pandacan, PETRON will launch series of community projects that will help communities of our town. I think it’s nice of PETRON to still do this after all the issues that do not favor them.
In a nutshell, the community programs include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Medical Missions
- Hapag-asa Feeding Programs for school childen
- Scholarships
- Classroom repairs
- Fire drills and safety awareness campaign
- Implementation of Kontra-Kalat sa Baranggay – Solid-waste management program
The project will be implemented by the third (3rd) quarter of this year.

Petron to launch community programs in Pandacan
By Donnabelle L. Gatdula Updated May 04, 2009 12:00 AM
MANILA, Philippines – Petron Corp., the country’s largest oil refiner, will launch a series of community programs in Pandacan, Manila, the host site of its oil depot.
As part of its corporate social responsibility program, community health center, a livelihood skills and training project and the rollout of Kontra-Kalat sa Barangay.
Petron has been a long-time partner of the barangays in the area in promoting a healthy and safe community.
However, some Manila officials have filed a petition for the relocation of the Pandacan oil depot.
Current programs include medical missions, Hapag-asa feeding program for school children, Tulong Aral scholarships, Brigada Eskwela — a regular classroom repair project, fire drills and a safety awareness information campaign.
“After taking a community survey recently, we saw the need to expand and intensify our CSR initiatives in the area. Aside from the programs we have in place, we will be implementing additional projects to serve the growing needs of the Pandacan community,” Petron Foundation director Malu G. Erni said.
The Petron Community Health Center will augment the health care programs and services being delivered by barangay health centers. The health center will also boast of specialized health care services that include a clinical laboratory, X-ray and ultrasound facilities.
The project is a joint effort of the Manila Health Department, Ospital ng Maynila and Petron Corp. The center also represents the 50th health center in the City of Manila and is expected to be operational by the third quarter of 2009.
In cooperation with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Petron will conduct technical training to local communities, particularly the youth, to better equip them with skills for employment.
Another initiative is the Kontra Kalat sa Barangay — a solid waste management program with numerous benefits. Benefits include reduced waste by households, seminar/trainings for efficient waste segregation, additional income from recyclables and more importantly, cleaner and healthier surroundings.
“We are very excited to implement these programs and grateful for the close cooperation and support of our partners. We hope that this sets the stage for more cooperation between Petron and adjacent communities in Pandacan,” Erni concluded.

well, i have just bumped with someone who knew something about some details sa pag-alis ng big 3 oil co. im not quite sure pero it make sense…
- if ever na maalis, there’s a rumor about sa pagpapatayo ng new establishment jan, first is the very first mall of pandacan and second is for the housing like residencia style daw. so kung ala residencia sya, mas maraming titirang tao dun at papabor sa mga jeepney, tricycle, pedicab, taxi, trolly drivers ng pandacan at gayun din siguro kung mall ang maitatayo jan.
For my opinion, I think they are doing this to get the peoples symphaty. If they are realy willing to do it, why only now? They have been there for so many years.I think it is better for them to lfind another place. For sure some businessman would build some malls, shop or whatever.
I’m originally fr. Pandacan but now based here in the UK. My parents and siblings still lives in Pandacan.
