Anti-CON-ASS Rally
Hottest news today in the Philippines is the issue on Constituent Assembly or CON-ASS for short. If my understanding is correct (and you feel free to correct me if I’m wrong) is that the main focus of CON-ASS is the change our country’s government system from Democracy to Parliamentary. Conspiracy theorists claim that Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is planning to be the country’s Prime Minister if we become Parliamentary.

What is Con-Ass?
In my personal view, Con-Ass is simply a “charter change” or amendment/revision of our constitution. Congressmen said that Con-Ass will be valid if 2/3 of the Congress approve it. But constitutionalist Fr. Joaquin Bernas disagrees, and has expressed on TV news that the Congress misinterpreted the Consititution.
On Wikipedia: “The bicameral Philippine Congress (Senate and the House of Representatives) is in a Constituent assembly mode when they formally convene to propose amendments or revisions to the 1987 constitution; and under Article XVII of the Constitution of the Philippines, upon a vote of three-fourths of all its Members.” Wiki source.

I honestly welcome changes in our government and constitution. however, the manner and timing of these proposed changes by the congress (lower house) are very suspicious. Let’s us all be vigilant and expressive in our stand. No to cha cha and conass before 2010 elections!
Nakakahiya naman ang congressman natin, Si Benny Abante po! Bakit sya nag approved sa Con-Ass? People in 6 District are not that stupid to vote for him again. We dont support con-ass.
With Cory’s death we should be reminded of the sacredness of our constitution. It is not a mere document that the empowered could whimpsicaly change for their own reasons. Yes, there must be changes on our constitution but the change must be done in a very delicate and clean manner. Abante our congressman should know as a preacher a sacred document must be treated. Its very obvious how our congressman has been sucking up to Malacanang, AYYYYYYYY NABENTA NA TAYO SA SAIS, IF THERE IS A CHANGE THAT HAS TO BE DONE ITS KICKING OUR FALSE PREACHER CONGRESSMAN
