Seller of fake software nabbed in buy-bust operation
By CARLO SUERTE FELIPEJuly 15, 2009, 7:13pmA man allegedly selling pirated computer software was arrested in an entrapment operation last July 9, Mandaluyong police said Wednesday.
Police identified the suspect as Marvin Earl Natividad, 28, of Pandacan, Manila, who was arrested in a buy-bust operation with the help of Arjay Tabayag, 23, of Pasay City.
Tabayag earlier complained to police that he bought fake computer software from an Internet site called “Tipid PC” which offered supposedly authentic software.
Tabayag said that through the Tipid PC website, he contracted to buy five pieces of Microsoft Windows XP Professional CDs for P11,000.
He said he met an unidentified representative of the website at the MRT Shaw Boulevard Station on June 28, 2009, who turned over the software after receiving payment.
Police said Tabayag later discovered the software did not work and contacted the website to complain but got no response.
A week later, Tabayag got a text message from someone claiming to represent the website who offered to sell him the same software at the same site.
