In case you didn’t know it or have forgotten it, today is the birthday of Padre Jacinto Zamora. He was born on August 14, 1835, making him 173 years old If he’s still alive.
Padre Zamora is a key figure in Philippine History. He was a part of the famous priest trio known as the “Gomburza“. The other two were Padre Gomez and Padre Burgos. The three fought for the rights of the Filipinos until they were falsely accused of mutiny against the Spaniards and sentenced to death by garrote (“bitay” in our local language).
In his memory, the Jacinto Zamora Elementary School (JZES) on Quirino Avenue served a mass yesterday morning, before resuming their first periodical test today.
Also, Manila residents and officials gathered at Jacinto Zamora Historical Landmark this morning to pay tribute. A mass officiated by Pandacan parish priest Rev. Fr. Lari Abaco was offered and ceremonies followed.
As a Pandacan resident, are you aware of this historical day?
