Students and working Filipinos who need or want an extra break are going to love this: no school and/or work on Monday, August 25, 2008. Announced as a non-working holiday for the entire nation (National Heroes Day), the whole Philippines, including Pandacan, Manila, gets its second consecutive long weekend since August 18 was also a holiday.
The Arroyo administration has issued an R.A. (Republic Act) that moves holiday to the nearest Monday. National Heroes Day (which falls on the last Sunday of August) is then moved to August 25.
There are two schools in Pandacan: Jacinto Zamora Elementary School (JZES) on Quirino Avenue and Bagong Baranggay Elementary School on Zamora Street. Both will be closed in honor of the holiday. My cousin who studies at JZES confirmed that there will be no classes there, and my friend whose daughter goes to Baranggay Elementary will not waste time waking up early.
Being a holiday, you can expect one thing on Monday: better traffic along Quirino Avenue! :D
