If you go to this place called “Island” (Is this spot also called “Plaza Azul?”) along Pres. Quirino Highway, you will see people of all ages playing an old game known as “croquet”. However, the players call it “Gateball“. In fact, there’s already an existing GateBall League in Manila as shown on a vest of a player in one of the pictures in the gallery.
More (story and pictures) if you read the rest…
The rules are similar to croquet, where you use a mallet to hit a ball making sure it goes through a miniature “gate” installed on the ground. The balls have numbers on them but I’m not sure how they score or win in this game.
Are you a Pandacan resident interested in this game? Fortunately, we have our own chapter, and if you wish to join, simply go to the island (or “trophy”) every morning to meet the players!
